Coláiste Gleann Lí offers and delivers a truly child centred education and strives to recognise and support the different types of learner. Our holistic approach to education centres on our Mission Statement which reads:

Junior Cycle at Coláiste Gleann Lí:

In a bid to deliver this ideal and in recognition of the concept of multiple intelligences we offer a broad and varied Junior Certificate programme. Our school offers mixed ability classes and the following subject arrangement.

Students will take the following mandatory subjects;


CSPE, English, French, Gaeilge, Mathematics, Physical Education, Religious Education, Science, SPHE.


Students are offered the following optional subjects on a carousel of 11 weeks each and then may choose to keep one subject in each category for the remainder of the Junior Certificate cycle.


Category 1: Business/ Home Economics/ Materials Technology Metal

Category 2: Materials Technology Wood/ Coding, Digital Literacy/ Geography

Category 3: Art/History/ Technical Graphics


Coláiste Gleann Lí is awaiting in anticipation the results of on-going discussion on the implementation of proposed changes to the Junior Certificate programme as officially announced by the former Minister for Education and Skills, RuairíQuinn T.D on the 3rd November 2011.

The three-year Junior Certificate programme is complemented by the Junior Certificate Schools Programme (JCSP) that supports learners and sets out clear learning objectives. It enables the learners to take part in a range of innovative initiatives, to arrange educational outings and interactive learning experiences.The positive progress of our learners is rewarded during our celebration day.The JCSP is not separate from the Junior Certificate programme is merely acts as a means of guiding students towards the successful completion of the Junior Certificate.


Senior Cycle at Coláiste Gleann Lí:


We offer a varied range of practical and academic subjects at senior cycle.

The following mandatory subjects will be taken by students at senior cycle.

English, Gaeilge, Mathematics


The remaining optional subjects are available in the following categories;


Category 1: Biology or Art

Category 2:French or Construction

Category 3:Geography or Design Communication Graphics (DCG)

Category 4: Home Economics or Engineering

Category 5: Business or L.C.V.P



In addition to our Leaving Certificate Programme,Coláiste Gleann Lí offers a comprehensive Pathfinders programme. Each year a number of fifth year students are selected to participate in Pathfinders in partnership with the Institute of Technology,Tralee.This programme extends for the two years of the senior cycle and gives students a taste of third level life and helps them to gain access to college courses i
